The secret cleaning mechanism for car care professionals – Proper usage and benefits of dip and wash tool.

The
Background

Platinum Series car wash product all have one thing in common when they get hatched up: the thought process that we can creatively innovate car wash and detailing products available on the market today. We try to create products with a bit more ease, a bit more comfort, and a bit more for your hard-earned buck.

My favorite example of that innovation is the . Platinum Dip And Wash Tool My boss and I were reviewing early versions of the Dip and Wash Brush by testing it against a few competitors. One thing we noticed was that there was a solid amount of missed areas, or spider scratching when using our Dip and Wash Brush. The main issue with a brush, any brush mind you, is that only part of the bristles that are really reliable as a cleaning mechanism are the tips. Once you apply pressure and the bristles fan out, you’ve cut the cleaning functionality of the tool by half. The second issue when washing your car with a brush is the spider scratching. Spider scratching occurs when microscopic dirt and dust particles are dragged across the surface of your vehicles paint. These particles scratch and mar the clear coat creating hazing and circular micro scratches, or as we call them in the industry, spider scratching.

We knew that if we just used our Platinum Series Wash Mitt, or even the plethora of other options that are out there, we wouldn’t have created these imperfections on our newly washed car. It was at this point I looked over at my boss and he had this grin on his face, the grin that I knew all too well. This was his “I’ve just had an interesting idea that might blow your mind away” grin. He went to our stash of car washing products, grabbed the Platinum Wash Mitt, and jammed it over the brush bristles. At first, I thought he was joking. Then, as he started to wash the car (with the now oddly shaped mitt and the ever so few bristles sticking out the opening of the mitt where your hand was supposed to be) I saw the potential. This was going to be such a cool car washing tool!

We did some research, as one should when creating any new product, and found that the dip and wash method did exist in some form of what we envisioned, but we needed to elevate it a bit to make it a true Platinum Series product. In the beginning, the Dip and Wash Tool went through a few generations with different pole mechanisms, different shapes for the wash head, and several other slight modifications, until we perfected it to what it is today.

Where our competitors tend to have square or rectangular wash heads, we created a large oval wash head. This allows you to wash more space on the vehicle, but still be able to fit into most standard sized wash buckets. During the testing phase of this product, we realized that the shape of the wash head provided us with one more benefit we never saw coming – swirling suction.

When you push the wash head down into a round bucket, it creates a heavy swirling action that helps pull dirt and grime out of the chenille wash head, making sure you always have a clean car washing device.

The
Benefits

The Dip and Wash Tool combines the ease of a dip and wash brush on a pole, with the sage cleaning prowess of a chenille or wool wash mitt. The wash head is made up of a soft foam backing that rests on a plastic board. Layered over the top of that is a plush coral fleece microfiber backing. The real cleaning power of the tool comes from the thick microfiber tendrils that come out of the backing. The nook and crannies created by this double cleaning surface provides ample room to trap dirt and grime removed from the surface of your car, without leaving them on the end of the tendrils where they could scratch or cause damage to the clear coating paint job. Now we slap that bad boy on the end of a lightweight extendable pole, and even the tallest of vehicles is now easily within reach. We added an easy grip hand hold to make sure that you are able to keep a firm grip on the tool for excellent control and to prevent it from slipping from your hands.

Earlier in the blog I said, “we perfected [the Dip and Wash Tool] to what it is today,” and I meant it – but there’s always room for improvement. In the next few months I’m going to give you a sneak peek at new products we’re working on and the process of refining what some might consider a “finished product.”
